ABOUT AMERICAN LYRIC THEATER

American Lyric Theater (ALT) was founded in 2005 by Lawrence Edelson to to build a new body of operatic repertoire for new audiences. Imagine an company that develops new works that are linked to the popular consciousness of the society in which it operates. The works are all in English or Spanish and have subject matter that is contemporary and relevant. The company partners with leading opera companies and festivals around the world to ensure the best possible reception for the new works it develops. This is the vision for ALT.

PRINCIPAL PROGRAMS

Through its principal programs, ALT actively promotes the development of stage works that break down the barriers between “Opera” and contemporary American audiences. We strive to encourage creativity by artists whose works are as theatrically vivid as they are musically compelling -- lyric theater that appeals to the interests, passions and tastes of contemporary American society.

The Golden Ticket is a deliciously layered fable with fantasy and comedy about the power of generosity and fearless imagination. The music is beautiful, with sophisticated vocal writing and wonderful scenes you'll remember from the book: Augustus Gloop being swept away in the Chocolate River, Violet Beauregarde inflating like a giant blueberry, Mike Teavee being demagnified into the tele-dimension, Veruca Salt being thrown down the rubbish shoot by a gang of nut-inspecting squirrels and magic elevators flying high over the city. The Golden Ticket is admission to a magical land of fantastic experiences.
