JOIN US AS OUR GUEST ON MAY 16th FOR INSIGHTALT

We are so grateful that you have joined ALT in the process of developing new opera. This May, we will workshop and showcase two exciting new works at Symphony Space, and in appreciation of your past support, we are pleased to offer you complimentary tickets to these performances on May 16.

The first opera is OFRENDA, by Jorge Sosa and John de los Santos, at 3:00 PM. Ofrenda is a powerful story inspired by Día de los Muertos traditions, curanderas (traditional healers) in México, and the mysticism that surrounds them. The opera centers on Macaria and her daughter, Pina. Macaria, a hospital custodian, encounters Death (La Señora) on a bus ride after her shift. Moved by Macaria’s kindness, Señora sheds a tear of life into Macaria’s water bottle, giving her the power to heal anyone—but at a cost that will eventually catch up with her. As the story unfolds, Ofrenda reflects the hopes we hold for our children, the sacrifices we make for their well-being, and a daughter’s journey toward understanding and honoring those who came before her.

The second opera is THE SHADOW, by Ivette Herryman Rodriguez and Sam Norman, at 7:00 PM. A simple experiment goes terribly wrong when a man accidentally detaches himself from his shadow, which slips away into the night. Unable to recover it, he is eventually forced to move on—until the evening he receives an unexpected visitor. Adapted from the twisted tale by Hans Christian Andersen, The Shadow explores the fragility of identity and how easily reality itself can be overtaken by a compelling story.

Together, these readings offer a wonderful opportunity to experience new operas in development and to be part of the conversation that helps shape their future.

We would be delighted to welcome you to either of these concerts—or to both, if you’d like to enjoy a full day exploring the process of making new opera. Please click on the button above to fill out your ticket request, and we will confirm your complimentary tickets. Ticket requests must be made no later than May 13, and available seats will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

We look forward to welcoming you.
